Kern Solar Structures recently completed its contract with Blattner Energy providing 56,400 Kern Solar X-Piles™ for Solar Frontier Americas 106 MW Midway I & II Utility Scale Solar Project in Calipatria, CA just south of the Salton Sea.
KSS was tasked with developing a coated steel pile that would provide high performance corrosion protection to steel piles in the severe corrosive environment that existed at the Calipatria, CA solar site. The steel pile coating would need to withstand the impact of pile driving, while providing subterranean and atmospheric corrosion protection in corrosive environments. After field testing several coatings the determination that a fast-dry epoxy would meet the needs of the project.
